The wait is finally over and the most anticipated book of the year, the history of Cortoon Shamrocks, will be launched on Saturday. It has been a little over a year in the making and involved a tremendous amount of research, consultations, and donations of photographs, memorabilia, and stories from members and friends of the Club. The book itself is filled with match reports, anecdotal stories, and plenty of photographs from the very early days of the Club’s existence right up to the present day. Along with the detailed history, there are also contributions from the Legends of Cortoon Football, such as, Tommy Joe Gilmore, Derek Savage, Joe McDonagh, Pete Finnerty, Emer Flaherty and Edel Concannon. What started out as a brief history, has transformed into one of the most comprehensive club histories ever written, all crammed into 247 full colour pages. It has been an enormous undertaking by the entire committee and one which we are extremely proud of and we hope you will get as much enjoyment out of reading it as we did in writing it. The book will be launched at a function in the Ard Rí House Hotel in Tuam on Sat 30th March from 8.00pm by former GAA President and Cortoon player, Joe McDonagh, where there will also be an exhibition of the hundreds of photographs, memorabilia, and old jerseys that we have received. All members, local residents, sponsors, and friends of the club are invited to attend this historic day for one of the oldest clubs in the country. We look forward to seeing you there.
