For the second game running, the
Senior team led by two points heading into injury-time only to lose by a point
in their league game against Killererin in Barnaderg on Saturday evening.
Points from Derek Savage, David Warde, Mickey Costello, and Cathal Mulryan sent
Cortoon in at the break trailing by 0-7 to 0-4. They looked a different team in
the second half though as, after Killererin added another after the restart,
the Shamrocks then went on a run of six points without reply to leave them two
clear as the clock ticked past 60 minutes. In the midst of those points came
the only real goal-chance of what was a scrappy game as a long ball was met by
the on-running Mulryan whose shot was well saved by the Killererin keeper who
pushed it out for a 45. Killererin though popped over three injury-time points
to give them victory by 0-11 to 0-10. It was indiscipline that ultimately cost
Cortoon as six of Killererin’s points came from frees. Team: Darragh Glynn,
Matthew Concannon, Norman Connolly, Brian Roache, Damian Varley (0-1), Brion
Gilmore, Paul Varley, David Warde (0-3), David Finnegan, Cathal Mulryan (0-1),
Derek Savage (0-3), Adrian McDonnell, Fergal Tierney, Mickey Costello (0-1),
Martin Connell. Subs used: Donal O’Neill (0-1), Rory Maloney, Fergal Heverin.
