u16s Victorious Over Local Rivals

posted 15 Apr 2013, 16:05 by Unknown user

The under 16 team enjoyed a good win over local rivals, Milltown, in Brownsgrove last Tuesday. Cortoon hit the front early on as Eoghan Fahy opened the scoring with a point and, from the resulting kick-out, the ball made its way to Stephen Murphy whose delightful through-ball found Ronan Boyle unmarked and he calmly slotted it into the corner of the net. Milltown, however, pulled a goal back almost immediately and the teams traded points, including a fine solo effort from Martin Boyle. The last few minutes of the half saw Cortoon take command of the game with two quick-fire goals, the first coming, yet again, from the boot of Ronan Boyle as his shot from a tight angle looped over the keeper and the second from the left foot of Liam Maloney as a poor kick-out was seized upon and punished. The Shamrocks went in at the break with a 3-2 to 1-2 lead. The second half was a much more open, free-flowing affair and, despite Milltown getting two more goals, Cortoon maintained their six point advantage with points coming from Liam Maloney, Stephen Murphy, and Martin Boyle. Their victory was capped off in fine style with a beautifully worked team goal after some slick passing between Padraic Neenan, Stephen Murphy, and Martin Boyle ended with the latter rifling a shot past the Milltown keeper. Full-time score: Cortoon 4-11 Milltown 3-8. Team: Damian Boyle, Thomas Nicholson, Patrick Fleming, Dylan Walsh, Padraic Neenan, Peter Clarke, Eoghan Fahy (0-1), Liam Maloney (1-2), Stephen Murphy (0-1), Dylan Lowry, Ronan Boyle (2-0), Martin Boyle (1-7), Ross Holian. Subs used: Jordan Rooney.
